About BangkokVacay

About Me
I'm Michael Gonzales, an airline pilot by profession and an explorer at heart. Flying lets me see the world from a panoramic vantage point, but it's the experiences on the ground that keep me traveling: the food, the neighborhoods and the people. Among the cities I've visited, Bangkok stands out for its blend of tradition and modernity. BangkokVacay collects what I've learned there, alongside VailVacay, about the mountain town my family has visited every year since 2005, and BostonVacay.
My Background
I started college at the University of Colorado in 1990 and went on to fly the S-3 Viking in the U.S. Navy. After September 11, my squadron deployed aboard the USS John C. Stennis for Operation Enduring Freedom, from November 2001 to May 2002. In 2005 I left active duty to become an airline pilot, which I still am today, and I spent about eight more years in the Naval Reserve flying the C-40A, which took me around the globe. Travel runs in the family: thanks to airline standby passes, my wife and our three children have been flying with me for years.
How BangkokVacay Is Put Together
BangkokVacay covers Bangkok's hotels, restaurants, attractions, bars and shops, along with travel guides and an events calendar. We check key facts such as addresses, hours and prices against official sources, and listing photos come from Google Maps, credited to their contributors. When a business closes or a guide goes out of date, we rewrite or retire it rather than leave it up. Details change quickly, so confirm with the business before you go.
How the Site Makes Money
Some links, including Expedia hotel searches and Klook and Viator tours, are affiliate links. If you book through them, BangkokVacay may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never decide which places we cover or what we say about them. The details are in our disclaimer.
