Pratunam: Platinum Fashion Mall and the market streets
Pratunam has grown from a neighborhood of garment makers into one of the largest wholesale and retail clothing centers in Thailand. Its best-known building is the Platinum Fashion Mall on Phetchaburi Road in Ratchathewi, which describes itself as a large wholesale and retail mall with more than 2,500 shops offering men's wear, women's wear, bags, leather goods, shoes and accessories.
- Good for: casual shirts, T-shirts, shorts, trousers and basics at low prices, and buying several pieces at once.
- Know before you go: shops sell both wholesale and retail, so ask whether a price depends on buying several pieces, and whether you can try things on before you pay.

Chatuchak Weekend Market
The Chatuchak Weekend Market in the north of the city is the largest market in Thailand, with more than 15,000 stalls in 27 sections. Clothing and accessories fill most of them, sections 2 to 6 and 10 to 26, and secondhand clothing turns up in several, including 2 to 6, 22, 25 and 26.
- Good for: T-shirts, casual shirts, vintage and used pieces, and clothes from small independent labels.
- Know before you go: it is big, so pick a few sections rather than trying to see everything, and go early before the heat builds.
Siam malls: brands, fitting rooms and fixed prices
The area around BTS Siam, where the Sukhumvit and Silom lines meet, is the city's main mall district. Siam Center stands next to the station, and Siam Paragon is linked to the station by a skybridge. An elevated walkway under the Skytrain tracks continues to the Ratchaprasong intersection and centralwOrld. Across Rama I Road, Siam Square's low-rise streets have long been a center of Thai youth fashion.
- Good for: international and Thai brands, formal and business wear, shoes, and anything where fit matters and you want a fitting room and a receipt.
- Know before you go: prices are fixed; at the larger malls, ask about the tourist VAT refund on bigger purchases.
Along the BTS Sukhumvit Line

Tailored clothes
Bangkok has many tailors offering made-to-measure suits and shirts. Quality varies a great deal, so choose on the fabric and workmanship you can see rather than on a promise of speed, allow time for at least one fitting, and agree the price, fabric and delivery date in writing before you pay a deposit.
Tips for men shopping for clothes in Bangkok
