To get to Koh Kood from Bangkok, you travel about 315 kilometers east to Trat province by road or air, then take a boat from the mainland pier at Laem Sok to the island. Most people book one combined ticket: a van or bus from a Bangkok pickup point that connects with the boat, sold by the ferry companies themselves. The alternative is a Bangkok Airways flight from Suvarnabhumi to Trat, followed by a transfer to the pier.
Koh Kood (also written Ko Kut) is an island district of Trat province in the Gulf of Thailand, well outside Bangkok, so the trip usually takes most of a day. Below are the three practical routes, what each involves, and the checks worth making before you go.
Option 1: Combined bus or van and boat tickets
This is the simplest route if you are starting in the city. The ferry operators sell through tickets that include road transport from Bangkok to the Laem Sok pier and the boat across.
- Boonsiri High Speed Ferries runs catamarans from Laem Sok pier near Trat to Ao Salad pier on Koh Kood, with Koh Mak and Koh Chang also on its network. Its booking system lists Bangkok pickup points including Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang Airport, Khao San Road, Victory Monument, Ekkamai and Lumpini Park, plus hotel transfers in the Old Town.
- Ko Kut Express runs a large air-conditioned fast ferry between Laem Sok and the island's main pier, and says the crossing often takes about 75 minutes. It sells van-and-boat transfers from Khao San Road and from Suvarnabhumi Airport, where its meeting point is a counter next to exit 8 on the ground floor.
Airports of Thailand also lists a Koh Chang and Koh Kood coach service at Suvarnabhumi, on Level 1 near Gate 8 of the main terminal. Departure times depend on the season, and the operators publish their own timetables. Morning departures from Bangkok are the norm, because the last boats of the day leave the mainland in the afternoon.
Option 2: Fly to Trat, then transfer to the pier
Trat Airport is a small airport built and operated by Bangkok Airways, which flies there from Suvarnabhumi Airport with ATR-72 turboprops. It is the quickest way to cover the distance from Bangkok, though you still need a road transfer to the pier and the boat crossing.
Ko Kut Express lists a combined transfer from Trat Airport to Koh Kood in its high-season timetable. Otherwise, arrange a taxi or your resort's transfer to Laem Sok. Check the current flight schedule on the Bangkok Airways website before you plan the connection, since the boat times decide the latest flight that still works.
Option 3: Coach or car to Trat, then the pier
A private car or pre-booked taxi gives you control over timing, which helps families and groups with luggage. You can also travel to Trat by coach and connect there: Airports of Thailand lists Trat among the intercity coach destinations from Suvarnabhumi's Public Transportation Center, and Ko Kut Express runs a paid shuttle between hotels in Trat town, the Trat bus station and the Laem Sok pier.
Whichever way you drive, plan to reach the pier well before your boat. The operators time their own Bangkok vans to meet specific sailings, which is the main advantage of a through ticket.
The boat crossing
Laem Sok is the main mainland pier for Koh Kood, and arrival points on the island include Ao Salad pier. Two kinds of boats run:
- Fast ferries and catamarans run to a main pier. Ko Kut Express says its ferry runs all year, including the low season when smaller boats cannot handle the waves, and that its fare includes a pickup-truck transfer to resorts on the island.
- Speedboats are quicker, and some drop passengers at resort piers along the west coast, but Ko Kut Express runs its speedboats in the high season only.
Boats also link Koh Kood with Koh Mak and Koh Chang, so island-hopping from Koh Chang is possible in the high season.
Seasons and safety
Ko Kut Express divides its year into a high season from mid-October to December, a green season from January to April, and a low season from May to September, with fewer services in the low season. The UK Foreign Office notes that weather patterns in Thailand have become less predictable, so check the forecast before a sea crossing.
Government advice matters on this route. Mainland Trat borders Cambodia. The UK advises against all but essential travel within 20 km of the land border, and Australia advises against travel within 10 km of it, naming mainland Trat. Check the latest advice, and your travel insurance, before you finalize a route through the province. Both governments also warn that boat accidents happen: wear a life jacket, and avoid overcrowded boats and crossings after dark.
Before you leave Bangkok

Most of a day. Ko Kut Express's high-season timetable lists its van from Khao San Road at 7:30 a.m. arriving on Koh Kood at 3:15 p.m., and its Suvarnabhumi Airport departure at 8:30 a.m. arriving at the same time. The boat crossing from Laem Sok alone often takes about 75 minutes, the company says.
Ko Kut Express lists 600 baht one way for its Laem Sok to Koh Kood ferry and 1,100 baht for its Bangkok to Koh Kood van-and-boat ticket, on its timetable as checked on September 26, 2026. Fares and times change by season, so confirm when you book.
There is no airport on Koh Kood. Bangkok Airways flies from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Trat, and from there you take a road transfer to Laem Sok pier and a boat to the island.
The main mainland departure point is Laem Sok pier near Trat town. Boonsiri and Ko Kut Express both sail from there; Boonsiri's boats arrive at Ao Salad pier on Koh Kood.
Ko Kut Express says its large ferry runs all year, including the low season from May to September, while its speedboats run only in the high season. Expect fewer departures in the low season.
