Sala Chalermkrung, the royal theatre on Charoen Krung Road, stages a 25-minute khon show built around Hanuman, the monkey hero of the Ramakien, three times every weekday: 1 pm, 2:30 pm and 4 pm. Khon is Thailand's classical masked dance drama, and the show uses live Thai music, narration, and modern lighting and sets, with English and Chinese subtitles to explain the story.

The theatre has run the show since 2005. Its cast of more than 100 performers are students from leading schools, trained by teachers and specialists from the College of Dramatic Arts at Bunditpatanasilpa Institute.

The easy way in for visitors: the 500 baht Grand Palace admission ticket, bought at the palace ticket office, includes a seat at the khon show. The khon ticket is valid for seven days from the date of purchase, and the theatre runs a shuttle from the front of Wiman Thewet Gate, the Grand Palace exit.
