Wondering how to get to Pattaya from Bangkok airport? From Suvarnabhumi, the simplest way is the direct Roong Reuang Coach bus from Level 1, near Gate 8, which runs to Pattaya's bus station in about two hours depending on traffic. You can also book a shared door-to-door transfer from the same area, hire a private van or car, or take a metered taxi from the taxi rank. From Don Mueang, the Transport Co. express bus is the direct public option.
Pattaya is about 120 kilometers by road from Suvarnabhumi, and because the airport sits on the eastern side of Bangkok you do not need to go into the city first. Here is how each option works.
From Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK)
Roong Reuang Coach: the direct bus
Roong Reuang Coach runs scheduled buses from Suvarnabhumi to two Pattaya-area stops, and its boarding point is on Level 1 of the main terminal near Gate 8, close to the arrivals area.
- Airport to Pattaya bus station: the terminus is the company's station on North Pattaya Road, near Sukhumvit Road, from where you can continue to Central or South Pattaya. The company quotes a journey of about two hours, depending on traffic.
- Airport to Jomtien: a separate route runs to the Jomtien bus station, with departures through the day. The company notes that its last evening departure ends at the Pattaya station instead of Jomtien.
Book on the company's website, and arrive at the stop at least 15 minutes before departure. Airports of Thailand lists the company's key conditions: the name on the booking must match your passport, tickets are not refundable, date or time changes must be made at least two days ahead for a small fee, and each passenger may bring one checked bag of up to 20 kg plus one personal bag free. Shared door-to-door transfer
If you would rather be dropped at your hotel, Roong Reuang Coach also sells a shared transfer from Suvarnabhumi that goes straight to the Pattaya hotel named on your booking. Check-in is on Level 1 at Gate 8, and it runs on a fixed daily schedule. It suits travelers with heavy bags or late check-ins who do not want to change to a local ride at the bus station.
Private van, car or limousine
For families and groups, a whole vehicle can be the easiest choice. Airports of Thailand lists several services near Gate 8 on Level 1: a 27-seat LimoBus for private charter, and 9-seat vans from operators such as Phanumas I Service and Bualuang Travel and Services. AOT Limousine, the airport operator's own car service, has counters on Level 2 and runs 24 hours. Roong Reuang Coach also offers private transfers booked in advance.
Taxi or Grab
Public taxis wait on Level 1 of the main terminal between Gates 4 and 7, 24 hours a day. The meter starts at THB 35 or 40, and a THB 50 airport surcharge is paid directly to the driver; expressway tolls are paid by the passenger, and baggage fees may apply under Ministry of Transport rules. For a long trip out of Bangkok, the Department of Land Transport allows a fare to be agreed with the driver instead of using the meter, so confirm the price and whether tolls are included before you set off. From Don Mueang Airport (DMK)
Don Mueang, in the north of Bangkok, is farther from Pattaya and on the wrong side of the city, but there is still a direct bus. The Transport Co. express bus from Don Mueang to Pattaya runs between 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Its service counters are on Floor 1 of the International Terminal (Building 1) at Gate 1 and of the Domestic Terminal (Building 2) at Gate 11, and the bus leaves from the Service Hall building.
Outside those hours, the options are a taxi from Terminal 1 at Gate 8 or Terminal 2 next to Gate 15, or a ride-hailing car. The same Department of Land Transport rule on agreeing fares for trips outside Bangkok applies. Which option should you choose?
- On a budget, traveling light: the Roong Reuang Coach bus from Suvarnabhumi Gate 8.
- Heavy bags or a late check-in: the shared door-to-door transfer.
- A family or group: a chartered van or private transfer, priced for the whole vehicle rather than per seat.
- Arriving outside bus hours: a taxi, with the fare agreed before you leave.
- Landing at Don Mueang: the Transport Co. express bus, if your flight lands in time.
