What is a good salary in Bangkok? The most reliable yardstick is the official one: in the second quarter of 2026, Thailand's National Statistical Office measured the average monthly wage of employees in Bangkok at about 19,900 baht, against about 15,900 baht for the country as a whole. A salary well above that Bangkok average puts you ahead of most local employees, while what feels "good" to you will depend on your rent, your lifestyle and whether you are paid locally or from abroad.
This guide uses only the official survey figures and explains how to read them, rather than quoting salary ranges we cannot verify.
The official numbers: average wages in Bangkok
The National Statistical Office (NSO) runs the Labour Force Survey every quarter. Its tables for April to June 2026, published in August 2026, give the average monthly wage of employees by region and by industry. The headline figures:
- Bangkok, all employees: about 19,900 baht a month.
- Bangkok, private-sector employees: about 19,000 baht a month.
- Whole kingdom, all employees: about 15,900 baht a month.
So wages in the capital run roughly a quarter higher than the national average. These are averages across all employees, from cleaners and shop staff to managers, and they do not include the self-employed or business owners.
How wages vary by industry in Bangkok
The same survey breaks the Bangkok figure down by industry. The gap between sectors is wide:

Office jobs in technology, finance and professional services pay well above the city average. Hotel, restaurant and retail work pays below it.
What "good" means for you
An average is a benchmark, not a budget. Three things decide whether a given salary is comfortable in Bangkok:
Rent

Family, schooling and health cover
For families, international school fees and private health insurance can outweigh everything else, so a salary that is generous for a single person may be tight for a family of four.
A note for foreigners working in Bangkok
Foreign employees need a work permit and the right visa, and their pay is often set by international employers rather than the local market, so the NSO averages are not a guide to expatriate packages. Before accepting an offer, compare it with your own likely costs: rent in the area you would live in, schooling, health insurance and trips home. Minimum wage
Thailand sets a legal daily minimum wage by province through its national Wage Committee. We could not reach the Ministry of Labour's website to confirm the current Bangkok rate on the day we checked, so we do not quote one here. The rate changes by official announcement, so check the Ministry of Labour's current notice rather than relying on a figure in an older article.

According to Thailand's National Statistical Office Labour Force Survey for April to June 2026, the average monthly wage of employees in Bangkok was about 19,932 baht. For private-sector employees in Bangkok it was about 19,049 baht.
The same survey put the national average monthly wage at about 15,853 baht, so Bangkok employees earned roughly a quarter more than the national average in the second quarter of 2026.
In the NSO figures for Q2 2026, Bangkok employees in information and communication averaged about 31,328 baht a month, finance and insurance about 30,499 baht and professional, scientific and technical work about 27,449 baht.
Accommodation and food service employees in Bangkok averaged about 15,946 baht a month in Q2 2026, and household domestic workers about 12,211 baht, according to the NSO.
It is about two and a half times the official Bangkok average wage for Q2 2026, so it is well above what most employees in the city earn. Whether it is comfortable for you depends on your rent, family and lifestyle.
