If you need to know where to renew a Thai passport in Bangkok, the answer is the Department of Consular Affairs, part of Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its main office is at 123 Chaeng Watthana Road in Lak Si district, and it also runs smaller passport offices around the city, including a kiosk at MBK Center that opens on weekends. Thai passports are not renewed by extending the old book: you apply for a new passport, and adults need only their Thai national ID card and the old passport, if they have one.
Book a queue online before you go. The department's booking system is at qpassport.in.th, and walk-in capacity at busy offices is limited.
Passport offices in Bangkok
The Department of Consular Affairs lists these offices for ordinary passports within Bangkok (checked September 26, 2026):
- Department of Consular Affairs, Chaeng Watthana (main office). 123 Chaeng Watthana Road, Lak Si. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed on public holidays. This is the only place where you can collect a same-day express passport.
- Pathum Wan kiosk at MBK Center. 5th floor, Zone A, Phaya Thai Road. Open Monday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except public holidays and weekends that form part of a long holiday. The most central option, and the one to choose if you can only go on a weekend.
- MRT Khlong Toei. Inside the Khlong Toei MRT station on Rama IV Road. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Srinakarin kiosk. Thanya Park shopping center, 1st floor, Zone C. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Sai Tai Mai (Taling Chan). SC Plaza at the Southern Bus Terminal on Borommaratchachonnani Road. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Min Buri. Big C Suwinthawong. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Just outside the city there are also offices at Future Park Rangsit in Pathum Thani and at Central Plaza WestGate in Bang Yai, Nonthaburi. The Chaeng Watthana Government Complex office handles official (government) passports only, so do not go there for an ordinary passport.
What to bring
Adults (20 and over)
- Your Thai national ID card (original).
- Your old passport, if you have one.
Thai passports carry biometric data, so the office records your face photo, fingerprints and an iris scan. The department advises wearing only clear contact lenses so the iris can be recorded.
Applicants under 20
Minors need additional documents and the consent of their parents, and the department publishes a consent form and a power-of-attorney form for this. Check its document page before booking, as the requirements depend on who is attending with the child.
Fees and how long it takes
There are two service levels. A standard passport is delivered by EMS post, which takes a few working days in Bangkok. An express passport is issued the same day, but you must apply before 11 a.m. and collect it at the Chaeng Watthana office. The full fees are in the FAQ below. The department notes that fees are not refundable and that uncollected passports may be destroyed after 90 days.
Tips for the day
- Book first. Reserve your slot on qpassport.in.th, and bring the booking confirmation.
- Choose the office for your schedule. MBK is the only Bangkok office in the list that opens on weekends; Chaeng Watthana is the one to use for express service.
