Waldorf Astoria Bangkok
About
Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is the Ratchaprasong outpost of the New York name, and it leans on that heritage without turning it into a theme: Eggs Benedict at breakfast, a Peacock Alley for afternoon tea and a Bull & Bear steakhouse, each borrowed from the original hotel. Hong Kong designer André Fu handled the 171 rooms and public spaces in Carrara marble, rich woods and bronze, while New York studio AvroKO dressed the restaurants on levels 55 to 57 in a 1930s mix of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
It suits shoppers, business travelers and couples who want a polished downtown base rather than a river view. The hotel stands on Ratchadamri Road by the Ratchaprasong intersection and the Erawan Shrine, next to the BTS Skytrain, and its lounge looks across the green of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club.
Rooms and suites
Rooms are residential in feel, with floor-to-ceiling windows, a round dining table that doubles as a desk, and marble bathrooms with double vanities, a soaking tub and Aesop amenities. The suites have curved walls and wide city views, and the two-bedroom Waldorf Suites on levels 12 and 14 run to 200 square meters with a dining table for six. Connecting rooms, cribs and accessible rooms are available.
Pool, spa and fitness
Level 16 holds the heated infinity pool, with cabanas and daybeds set over the water, and the Waldorf Astoria Spa, where each private treatment room has its own steam room and rain shower. The spa's signature Vitality ritual pairs massage with a magnolia-scented candle, jade acupressure tools and a Chiang Mai crystal bowl. The gym is open around the clock and has a sauna and steam room.
Getting around
The hotel lists Ratchadamri BTS station about 350 meters away and Chit Lom about 400 meters away, so the Skytrain is the easy way to Siam, Silom and Sukhumvit when traffic stalls. Parking is complimentary, and the hotel arranges private airport transfers by Mercedes-Benz sedan or van.
Recognition
The MICHELIN Guide includes Waldorf Astoria Bangkok in its Bangkok hotel selection; the hotel does not currently hold a MICHELIN Key.
Restaurants and bars
Five venues are open to the public, and dress is smart casual throughout. A sixth, the Champagne Bar on level 57, is currently used for private events only.
The Brasserie is the all-day room on the Upper Lobby, built around a breakfast buffet with the Eggs Benedict first served at the Waldorf Astoria in New York, and a lunch of Western and Thai comfort dishes.
Front Room cooks home-style Thai food balanced across the eight Thai flavors, with cocktails built on Thai herbs, in a dining room eight meters high under more than 200 lanterns recalling the Yi Peng festival.
Bull & Bear is the hotel's steakhouse on level 55, grilling premium cuts over a custom open flame, with a raw bar and skyline views, for lunch and dinner.
The Loft is an evening cocktail bar styled as a vintage New York artist's studio, drawing on the old Waldorf Astoria bar book for forgotten cocktails, with bar bites and city views.
Peacock Alley, named for the famous promenade in the New York hotel, overlooks the Royal Bangkok Sports Club and serves homemade pastries, afternoon tea, light meals and wine through the day.
