Bangkok Airport Transfers, Fast Track and the BTS and MRT Pass Explained

Bangkok Airport Transfers, Fast Track and the BTS and MRT Pass Explained

Most visitors reach central Bangkok from the airport by train, taxi or app car, and the best choice depends on which airport you land at. Suvarnabhumi has the Airport Rail Link and a 24 hour taxi rank; Don Mueang has the SRT Red Line and its own taxi counters. A fast-track service can shorten the immigration queue, and a BTS pass can cover your first day in the city, but each has limits worth knowing before you buy.

Suvarnabhumi Airport is not in Bangkok itself: it sits in Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province, east of the city. Don Mueang Airport is inside Bangkok, in the northern Don Mueang district. Everything below comes from the airport operator, the rail operators and the Thai government's own pages, read on October 3, 2026.

The train is the quickest way into the center when your hotel is near the BTS or MRT, and it does not depend on traffic. The Thai government's page says the City Line takes no more than 30 minutes end to end. Pick the taxi or an app car when you have heavy bags, children or a late arrival. For fares and tips, see our guide to getting from Bangkok airport to the city and our note on taxi fares from the airport.

If you connect between the two airports, Suvarnabhumi runs a free shuttle bus to Don Mueang from Level 2, Gate 3, every 30 minutes from 05:00 to midnight. You need a flight ticket or proof of onward travel and your passport or national ID, and the airport says other passengers cannot use it.

Don Mueang Airport to the city

Don Mueang's metered taxi counters are on the first floor of International Terminal 1 at Gate 8 and next to Gate 15 at Domestic Terminal 2, open 24 hours. The airport says the metered fare carries a 50 baht add-on for the driver, and passengers pay any expressway tolls. Luggage over 26 inches can add up to 21 baht, and sports equipment of 50 inches or more up to 100 baht.

The rail option is the SRT Red Line from the station at the airport to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal. On the operator's fare table an adult trip from Don Mueang to Krung Thep Aphiwat costs 33 baht, and the line's timetable shows trains leaving Krung Thep Aphiwat from 5:00 a.m. to midnight, every 10 to 15 minutes. The operator's map shows interchanges with the Blue, Purple, Pink and Yellow lines. Our guide to getting from Don Mueang to Bangkok city covers the options in more detail, and which Bangkok airport is better helps if you can choose.

Fast track and priority lanes

The airport operator's own priority lane at Suvarnabhumi's departure security is for named groups: diplomatic and official passport holders, air crew, BOI and Thailand Privilege cardholders, Buddhist monks, seniors aged 70 and over, pregnant passengers, infants and passengers with disabilities. Passport control for departing international passengers uses automatic border control gates for all nationalities. That is the free, official system. It is not something you can buy.

What you can buy is a private meet-and-greet service, where a representative meets you and helps you through the airport. Klook sells one at Suvarnabhumi and one at Don Mueang, and its product page describes them as including priority assistance. They are independent private services, not the airport operator's priority lane, so read what each includes, where you meet the representative and the cancellation terms before you book.

Whether it is worth paying depends on the queue on the day, and no official source publishes immigration waiting times, so we cannot say how much time you would save. Check the product page for what is included, the meeting point and the cancellation terms, and remember that you must still complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card and clear customs. Our note on getting through customs in Bangkok has more on what happens after immigration.

The BTS One-Day Pass, the Rabbit Card and the MRT

TicketOfficial priceWhat it coversWhere to buy
BTS One-Day Pass150 bahtUnlimited rides on the date of issue, Green Line only. Not refundable. Time limit of 300 minutes inside the paid areaBTS ticket offices
BTS single journey17 to 47 bahtOne trip on the day of purchaseTicket machines at stations
Rabbit Card120 baht card fee, no depositStored value from 100 to 4,000 baht, or trip packages. Value is valid for 2 years from the last transactionBTS ticket offices, machines and top-up partners

The BTS runs from 05:00 to 01:00, with ticket offices open from 06:00 to midnight. Because the One-Day Pass is valid only on the Green Line, it does not cover the Airport Rail Link or the MRT, which are run by other operators. On our own arithmetic against the single fares of 17 to 47 baht, the pass pays off after roughly four rides if each is a long trip, and after nine if each is a short one. A Rabbit Card is the better choice for a longer stay, because you pay the 120 baht card fee once and top it up as you go.

Klook sells both tickets as vouchers: the Bangkok BTS Skytrain Rabbit Card and the BTS Skytrain One Day Pass. If you buy one, read the product page on how and where to exchange the voucher, and compare its price with the official 150 baht pass and the 120 baht card fee. For the MRT, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority announced on February 27, 2026 that the Blue Line operator planned to move to EMV contactless payment from June 1, 2026, so a bank card may work at the gates, but check the machine at the station. Our guides to buying a BTS ticket and BTS opening hours cover the basics.

Transfers to Pattaya and other private rides

Pattaya is in Chonburi province, not Bangkok, and a transfer there is a road trip rather than a city ride. Suvarnabhumi's operator lists intercity coaches to Pattaya from its Public Transportation Center and from Level 1, Gate 8, and Hua Hin and Koh Chang services at Gate 8. On Klook, the private city transfers between Bangkok and Pattaya, Ayutthaya, Hua Hin and more, the shared Bangkok and Pattaya transfers and the private Pattaya transfer by TTS cover the route, and the car rental with driver to nearby cities suits a day trip. Read how each product handles pick-up points, since transfers do not all start at the airport.

For a private ride from Suvarnabhumi to a Bangkok hotel, the AOT Limousine counters listed in the table above are the airport's own option, and the Klook car with driver covers longer trips.
