What Time Does the Bangkok BTS Open? First and Last Trains

The Bangkok BTS opens at 5 a.m. BTS Skytrain lists its service hours as 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., and the first trains leave the ends of the lines at 5:15 a.m. on the Sukhumvit Line and 5:30 a.m. on the Silom Line, so most central stations see their first train between about 5:30 and 6 a.m. The last trains pass through Siam, the interchange in the middle of the network, just after midnight.

Below are the first and last train times at the stations visitors use most, how often trains run through the day, and what to know about buying a ticket early in the morning. All times come from the operator's own timetable, which took effect on January 1, 2026; BTS describes them as approximate.

First trains

The BTS has two main lines that meet at Siam: the Sukhumvit Line, from Khu Khot in the north through Mo Chit and Siam to Kheha in the southeast, and the Silom Line, from National Stadium through Siam, Sala Daeng and Saphan Taksin across the river to Bang Wa.

If you have an early flight, check the exact time for your own station on the BTS website, which shows first and last trains station by station. The short Gold Line on the Thonburi bank, between Krung Thon Buri and Khlong San, starts later: its first train from Khlong San is at 6:06 a.m.

Last trains

BTS says the last regular train leaves Siam for all stations at 12:02 a.m., followed by a final train at 12:15 a.m. toward Samrong, Ha Yaek Lat Phrao, Bang Wa and National Stadium. That later train does not run to the far ends of the Sukhumvit Line, so if you are heading to Khu Khot or Kheha after midnight, check your station first. Stations close at 1 a.m.

A few examples from the timetable: from Asok, the last regular train toward Kheha leaves at 12:09 a.m. and toward Khu Khot at 11:53 p.m.; from Saphan Taksin, the last regular train toward Bang Wa leaves at 12:14 a.m.

How often trains run

Frequencies vary by line, day and hour. According to BTS, on weekdays the Sukhumvit Line runs every 2.5 to 5 minutes at the morning and evening peaks (7 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m.) and about every 6.5 minutes in the middle of the day, while the Silom Line runs about every 3 minutes 45 seconds at peak and every 6 minutes off-peak. After 10 p.m. both lines drop to about one train every 8 minutes, and weekend and holiday services are a little less frequent in the early morning.

Tickets before 6 a.m.

This is the detail that catches early risers out. BTS ticket offices open at 6 a.m. and close at midnight, an hour after the first trains start and an hour before the stations close. Outside those hours you cannot buy from or top up at the ticket office. Use a Rabbit card with enough value on it, or buy a single-journey ticket from a ticket machine; BTS says some machines take QR payment and others coins or banknotes. Using the BTS early and late

• Morning sightseeing: the first trains get you to Lumphini Park for a walk before the heat builds.
• Weekend market: Chatuchak Weekend Market is on the Sukhumvit Line's northern section around Mo Chit.
• Siam: the interchange station connects straight into the Siam malls, including Siam Paragon, where SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World is reached from exit 5.
• Silom Line museums: Jim Thompson House is about three minutes on foot from National Stadium, exit 1.
