Two floors, one route

The route starts on B1 with the jellyfish, the coral reef zone with its hundreds of clownfish, the Seahorse Kingdom and a rainforest area of four sub-zones. The Shark Walk takes you along a thin acrylic sheet that is all that separates you from four kinds of sharks. Downstairs on B2 are the highlights for most children: the ocean tunnel with sand tiger sharks, nurse sharks and eagle rays passing overhead, the shark shipwreck, the rock pools where sea stars can be met up close, green sea turtles, and the Penguin Ice Playground with its snow and cold breezes.

Feeding shows and extras

The daily feeding program is the part worth planning around. Penguins, otters, sharks and rays each have set feeding times, all included with admission, so it pays to check the schedule before you arrive and time the tunnel and the penguin room around them. Paid extras are booked at the counter on the day: a glass-bottom boat ride over the big tank with a keeper who hand-feeds the fish, a behind-the-scenes Jellyfish Lab, a talk with the aquarists, a children's 4D film and a VR dive.

Planning a visit

The aquarium suggests allowing at least 90 minutes, and most visits take around two hours with a show or two. Crowds are lightest on weekdays outside school holidays or after 2 p.m. Buying online in advance is cheaper than the counter price and lets you skip the ticket desk, and combined tickets add Madame Tussauds Bangkok or the King Power Mahanakhon SkyWalk. The café and souvenir shop can be visited without a ticket.
