How much a massage costs in Bangkok depends mostly on where you have it. At the massage school inside Wat Pho, the temple that is the traditional home of Thai massage, a one-hour Thai or foot massage costs 520 baht at the temple's published rates. A day-spa chain such as Let's Relax lists a two-hour Thai massage at 1,200 baht, and hotel spas start in the thousands: Rosewood Bangkok lists a 90-minute signature massage at THB 5,400.
Below are the published prices from each kind of place, all checked on the operators' own websites, with what you get for the difference. Prices change, so treat them as a guide and confirm when you book.
Wat Pho: Thai massage where it is taught
Wat Pho, south of the Grand Palace in the old city, is the natural first stop. The Wat Po Thai Traditional Medical and Massage School opened inside the temple in 1955, and the temple describes it as the first Thai medical school approved by the Ministry of Education. Its massage service runs through the temple day, and the rock gardens nearby still hold hermit figures demonstrating stretching postures, a reminder of how long the tradition has been taught here.
The temple publishes a short, simple menu: traditional Thai massage and foot massage in 30, 60 and 120-minute sessions, plus Thai massage with herbal balm or with plai oil (plai is a ginger-family herb used in Thai medicine). The full price list is in the FAQ below. Note that you also need a temple admission ticket to get in.
Thai massage here is the traditional kind: you stay clothed, there is no oil unless you choose it, and the therapist uses pressure points and assisted stretches. It is firm, so say if you want lighter pressure.
The school also teaches courses for people who want to learn, from short introductions to professional training, through its own website and a teaching building on Maha Rat Road beside the temple.
Day-spa chains: the middle ground
Between the temple and the hotels are city spa chains with fixed, published menus, air-conditioned treatment rooms and online booking. Let's Relax, which has branches across Bangkok, lists these prices on its website menu:
- Thai massage, 120 minutes: 1,200 baht
- Thai massage with hot herbal compress, 120 minutes: 1,400 baht
- Foot massage: 600 baht for 45 minutes, 800 baht for 60 minutes
- Back and shoulder massage: 375 baht for 30 minutes, 750 baht for 60 minutes
- Aromatherapy oil massage: 1,300 baht for 60 minutes
Some treatments are only offered at selected branches, so check the branch before you book.
Hotel spas: the top of the range
Luxury hotel spas charge several times more, and the price buys private suites, steam rooms and longer, tailored treatments. Two examples from hotels we cover:
- Rosewood Bangkok runs Sense, a spa on its sixth floor, whose menu includes an ancient Thai massage, a Thai herbal compress massage and the signature Sense of Ploen massage at THB 5,400 for 90 minutes. The spa asks guests to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early and charges in full for no-shows or late cancellations.
- Anantara Siam Bangkok lists 90-minute treatments such as a deep-tissue muscle-release massage from THB 4,000++ and a sleep-restoration ritual from THB 4,500++. The "++" means 10% service charge and 7% VAT are added.

How to choose
- For a traditional Thai massage at a fair price, Wat Pho is hard to beat, and you can pair it with the temple and the Reclining Buddha.
- For comfort and a fixed menu in a mall or on Sukhumvit, a spa chain sits in the middle of the range.
- For a longer ritual with steam, sauna and a private room, book a hotel spa ahead.
- Check what the price includes. Hotel prices may carry "++"; chain and temple prices are generally shown as a single figure, but ask if unsure.
- Tell the therapist about injuries, pregnancy or health conditions before you start. Traditional Thai massage involves strong pressure and stretching.
