How to Get From Don Muang Airport to Bangkok City: Train, Bus, Taxi or Grab

How to Get From Don Muang Airport to Bangkok City: Train, Bus, Taxi or Grab

To get from Don Muang Airport to Bangkok city (the airport's official spelling is Don Mueang), you have four main choices: the SRT Red Line train from the station across the road, an airport bus (A1 to A4), the Limo Bus to Silom or Khao San, or a taxi or Grab car. The train is the quickest way to avoid road traffic and links to the MRT at Krung Thep Aphiwat; the A-buses are the cheapest way to reach the Old Town, Victory Monument and Lumphini Park directly.

Don Mueang is Bangkok's older airport, used by many low-cost airlines, and unlike Suvarnabhumi it is inside the City of Bangkok, in the north. Here is how each option works, with the counters and times the airport publishes.

By train: the SRT Red Line

Don Mueang station stands opposite the airport, and a pedestrian bridge links the station directly to the terminal. It is served by the SRT Dark Red Line, an elevated commuter line run by SRT Electrified Train (SRTET), as well as by long-distance trains on the lower platforms.

Heading into the city, take the Red Line south. The line runs to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (formerly Bang Sue Grand Station), where an underground walkway links to Bang Sue station on the MRT Blue Line. From there the Blue Line continues to Chatuchak Park, Sukhumvit, Silom, Chinatown and the Old Town. The Red Line also stops at Chatuchak on the way.

The fare is distance-based. SRTET's fare table, dated September 26, 2026, lists 33 baht for an adult from Don Mueang to Krung Thep Aphiwat, with discounted student and senior fares. Its timetable shows trains leaving Krung Thep Aphiwat for the Rangsit branch from 5 a.m. until around midnight, every 10 to 15 minutes. The operator's call center is 1690.

The train suits travelers with light luggage heading for places on the MRT. With big suitcases, remember that the route involves the bridge from the terminal and a change of line.

By airport bus: A1, A2, A3 and A4

Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) runs four airport bus routes from the International Passenger Terminal. The service counter is at Building 1, Floor 1, Gate 6, and buses also pick up in front of the Service Hall building.

  • A1 to Mo Chit 2 bus terminal, 5:45 a.m. to midnight, every 15 minutes. It is the closest bus for the Chatuchak Weekend Market area.
  • A2 to Victory Monument, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., every 15 minutes.
  • A3 to Lumphini Park, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., every 30 minutes. AOT's older route description has it passing Pratunam and Ratchaprasong on the way.
  • A4 to Sanam Luang, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., every 30 minutes, via Democracy Monument and Khao San, according to AOT. Sanam Luang is the open ground beside the Grand Palace.

Fares are in the FAQ. The buses are good value, but they run on ordinary roads and are slower at rush hour.

By Limo Bus to Silom or Khao San

Limo Bus runs two routes from Don Mueang: to Silom and to Khao San. Its counters are at International Passenger Terminal Building 1, Gate 7, and Domestic Passenger Terminal Building 1, Gate 15, and the airport lists a flat fare of 150 baht. The buses have Wi-Fi, according to AOT.

By taxi or Grab

Public taxi counters are on the 1st floor of International Terminal 1 at Gate 8, and in the Domestic Terminal next to Gate 15. You pay the meter, plus a 50-baht airport surcharge for the driver, plus any expressway tolls. Our guide to the taxi fare from Bangkok airport to the city explains each charge and the luggage fees.

Grab has a service counter in the Domestic Terminal, Building 2, 1st floor, Gate 14, and fares are set in the app. See how to use Grab in Bangkok if you have not used it before. A taxi or Grab car is the simplest choice for families, groups and anyone arriving late at night after the buses stop.

Connecting to Suvarnabhumi

If you are flying on from Suvarnabhumi, AOT runs a free shuttle bus between the two airports from 5 a.m. to midnight, every 30 minutes. It is only for passengers with an onward flight ticket, who must show the ticket and a passport. Our comparison of which Bangkok airport is better covers the differences between the two.

Which option to choose

  • Staying on the MRT (Sukhumvit, Silom, Chinatown): the Red Line to Krung Thep Aphiwat, then the Blue Line.
  • Staying in the Old Town or near Khao San: the A4 bus or the Limo Bus.
  • Staying near Siam, Pratunam or Lumphini: the A3 bus, or a taxi.
  • Arriving late, with children or heavy bags: a taxi or Grab car.
