The Siam is a small, family-owned hotel on the Chao Phraya in Dusit, Bangkok's royal and museum district, set in three acres of riverside gardens. Creative director Krissada Sukosol Clapp, a rock singer and actor, conceived it with designer Bill Bensley partly as a home for his collection of antiques, and the result recalls the Bangkok of King Rama V with Art Deco accents, a black, white and cream palette, and old teakwood houses beside the water.
It suits couples, design lovers and travelers who want the Grand Palace side of the city and a slower pace than downtown. The hotel describes itself as the only luxury hotel in Dusit; it sits at the foot of Krung Thon Bridge, and its own shuttle boat runs down the river to Sathorn Pier and the BTS at Saphan Taksin in about 30 minutes, which avoids the traffic.
