About
Prince Palace Hotel Bangkok opened in 1994 on the site of the old Mahanak Palace, home of a son of King Rama V, which gives the hotel its name. It is a big place: four towers above Bobae Market, one of Bangkok's oldest clothing wholesale markets, with the lobby on the 11th floor.
Its strongest card is the canal: Bobae Pier on Khlong Mahanak is directly behind the hotel, and the Saen Saep boat runs from there toward the Old Town temples. It suits travelers who want those sights and market shopping on the doorstep, families who need bunk beds or a multi-bedroom suite, and groups using its meeting rooms.
Rooms and suites
Eight room types spread across Towers A to D. Refreshed Deluxe rooms in Tower A have a walk-in shower, while Superior rooms in Towers B and C keep a bathtub, so choose by bathroom. Families can pick the Deluxe Family Bunk Bed room, with a king bed and a bunk, or the two- and three-bedroom Family Suites in Tower D. Selected rooms look over Khlong Mahanak.
Restaurants and bars
China Palace, on the 32nd floor of Tower A, serves Cantonese food, including Peking duck and an all-you-can-eat dim sum buffet, with views over Khlong Mahanak. Prince Cafe handles breakfast and all-day dining. On the 11th floor, Coconut Pool Bar serves Thai and Western pool food, Coconut Skyview above it pours evening drinks with Old Town views, Palace Bar & Café serves Starbucks coffee, and Shinsen Sport Bar does Japanese food by day and live sports at night.
Pools, gym and spa
There are two pools, in Towers A and D, plus Darawadee Spa and a fitness center on the 12th floor of Tower C, where sports clothes and shoes are required.
Getting around
The canal boat is the quickest way into the Old Town: a short ride to Phan Fa Lilat Pier, then a walk to Wat Ratchanatdaram and its Loha Prasat. Wat Saket and the Golden Mount and Wat Suthat and the Giant Swing are close by, with the Grand Palace and Wat Pho farther west. There is no BTS station nearby; the nearest MRT stop is Wat Mangkon, for Wat Mangkon Kamalawat and Chinatown.
Bobae Market
Bobae Market and Bobae Tower sit underneath and around the hotel, selling T-shirts, beachwear, shoes and children's clothes. It is officially wholesale, but most stalls sell single items, and guests can reach Bobae Tower from the Tower B elevators. Go in the morning: the market closes mid-afternoon and shuts on Tuesdays.
