Chao Phraya Dinner Cruises in Bangkok: How the Main Boats Compare

Chao Phraya dinner cruises in Bangkok fall into two broad groups: large buffet boats with a live band, which sail for about two hours from ICONSIAM or Asiatique The Riverfront, and a smaller number of hotel-run boats that serve a set menu instead of a buffet. Almost all of them loop past the same stretch of river, taking in Wat Arun, the Grand Palace and the Rama VIII Bridge, so the real choices are the food, the pier, the time of evening and how formal you want the night to be.

This comparison is built from each operator's own website, checked on September 26, 2026. Menus, schedules and piers change, so treat your booking confirmation as the final word on where to check in.

What you see from the river

The operators describe a similar loop. Boats leave the ICONSIAM or Asiatique piers, head upstream past the lit-up ICONSIAM towers on the Thonburi bank, pass Wat Arun on the west bank and the Grand Palace on the east, turn near the Rama VIII Bridge and come back downstream to Asiatique The Riverfront. Some operators name more: the Okura Cruise lists the Taksin Bridge, the Old Customs House and the Memorial Bridge, and Royal Princess's route map adds River City, Tha Maharaj and Siriraj Hospital. White Orchid and The Luxury White both note that the route can change with the water level.

Because the landmarks are shared, a seat on the open top deck matters more than which boat you pick. Most buffet boats sell the rooftop, the front (prow) deck and the air-conditioned lower decks as separate ticket types. Several of them warn that rooftop guests are moved indoors if it rains.

The buffet boats

Chao Phraya Princess

The longest-running name here: its operator, Tristar Floating Restaurant, was founded in 1990 and launched the first Chao Phraya Princess cruise in 2001. The package covers an international buffet with coffee, tea and water, live music and the riverside landmarks; alcohol is extra. Its booking form lists a 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. dinner program, and the contact page says bookings board at the River City Pier by default, next to River City Bangkok, with ICONSIAM or Asiatique possible if you ask 24 hours ahead. White Orchid River Cruise

A three-deck boat, 49.5 meters long, with an open rooftop, a front deck and an air-conditioned lower deck. The current dinner program checks in at Warehouse 3 in Asiatique and sails from 7 to 9 p.m. The buffet includes grilled shrimp and mussels, salmon sashimi and sushi alongside Thai dishes such as massaman chicken and pad Thai, with draft beer included. The Luxury White

The same company's larger boat, 65 meters long and 15 meters wide, with deck capacities that add up to 1,000 guests. It runs the most options of any operator here: evening dinner cruises from ICONSIAM Pier 4 (7:45 and 8:15 p.m. departures) and a Twilight cruise from Asiatique Pier 2 that sails at 5 p.m. and returns at 6:45, timed for sunset. Royal Princess Cruise

Royal Princess checks in at Asiatique's Warehouse 3 and sails from Pier 1 between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. The buffet includes steamed river prawns, mussels and salmon sashimi, with live music and Thai classical dance. The operator's own directions are practical: take the BTS to Saphan Taksin, use Exit 2, and ride the boat from the pier there to Asiatique. The Opulence

The Opulence calls itself the largest three-deck cruise on the river, with room for 770 guests, and it runs a later program: 8 to 10:15 p.m. from ICONSIAM Pier 2. The ticket covers an international seafood buffet, one welcome drink, coffee, tea and water, and live music; other drinks cost extra. Its front deck on the second level has no tables, so everyone can walk out for photographs, and the operator suggests requesting the rooftop if you want the full 360-degree view. Meridian Cruise

Meridian Cruise has operated on the river since 1988 and runs two programs from ICONSIAM: a Sunset Cruise that leaves at 5 p.m. and a Dinner Cruise that leaves at 8 p.m. Both loop past Wat Arun, the Grand Palace and the Rama VIII Bridge to Asiatique and back. Its resident Filipino band plays on both, and the dinner sailing adds Thai dance. Beer, soft drinks, tea and coffee are included, and the buffet has vegetarian choices. Hotel-run fine-dining boats

Two luxury hotels run their own boats, and both replace the buffet with a served menu. The evenings are smaller and slower, with a menu served course by course rather than a buffet line.

Saffron Cruise by Banyan Tree

Run by Banyan Tree Bangkok, Saffron Cruise is a two-story boat with a rooftop bar, the Moon Deck, and a four-course Thai menu. Guests check in at ICONSIAM Pier 1 at 6:30 p.m. and board at Pier 2 for a 7 to 10 p.m. evening, the longest sailing in this comparison. You can book Saffron Cruise by Banyan Tree on Klook.

Okura Cruise

Managed by The Okura Prestige Bangkok, the Okura Cruise is the one Japanese option on the river: a seasonal kaiseki set dinner or a teppanyaki dinner cooked at counters on board, with a cocktail bar on the upper deck. It boards at 7 p.m. from Pier 4 at Asiatique The Riverfront, and its welcome lounge opens from 5:30 p.m. The boat is closed for annual maintenance from September 15 to October 10, 2026. Choosing by pier

• ICONSIAM: The Luxury White (evening), The Opulence, Meridian and Saffron Cruise. The mall doubles as a waiting area, and several boats use different numbered piers for check-in and boarding.
• Asiatique The Riverfront: White Orchid, Royal Princess, The Luxury White Twilight and the Okura Cruise. White Orchid, Royal Princess and The Luxury White Twilight all check in at Warehouse 3.
• River City: Chao Phraya Princess by default.

Booking tips

• Sunset or night: Meridian's Sunset Cruise and The Luxury White Twilight suit an early evening and daylight photographs; the later sailings show the riverside lit up.
• Refunds: White Orchid, The Luxury White and Royal Princess tickets are non-refundable, Chao Phraya Princess says reservations cannot be cancelled, and Meridian charges in full for same-day cancellations.
• Arrive early: White Orchid, The Luxury White and Royal Princess treat anyone who arrives after boarding closes as a no-show, and Meridian asks guests to arrive 30 minutes ahead.
• Seats: edge seats on the buffet boats are limited and go to early bookings.
