State Tower Bangkok restaurants: Sirocco, Mezzaluna, Chef's Table and Breeze

State Tower Bangkok restaurants: Sirocco, Mezzaluna, Chef's Table and Breeze

State Tower, the gold-domed skyscraper at 1055 Silom Road, has four restaurants that most diners come for: Sirocco for open-air Mediterranean dinners under the dome, Mezzaluna and Chef's Table for French tasting menus that each hold two MICHELIN stars, and Breeze for Chinese cooking on an open-air terrace. All four are run by lebua at State Tower as part of The Dome at lebua, all serve dinner only, and all take reservations with a deposit.

Which one to book depends on what you want from the evening: the famous view with a full meal, a long tasting menu, or a Chinese dinner in the open air.

Sirocco: the open-air dinner under the dome

Sirocco was lebua's first restaurant and is still the one most people mean when they talk about dinner at State Tower. Tables are set outside at the top of the tower, beneath the golden dome, with the skyline and the curve of the Chao Phraya below. A live jazz band plays from Tuesday to Sunday.

The kitchen, led by Executive Chef Brian Rodriguez, cooks from the coasts of Italy, Greece and Spain. There is a chef's tasting menu, an à la carte menu and an oyster and caviar list. Sirocco welcomes children of all ages, which makes it the easiest of the four for a family celebration. It is not in the MICHELIN Guide; lebua cites other recognition, including Gambero Rosso's Two Forks.

Sirocco is an evening restaurant in the literal sense. lebua's own guide to The Dome says the terraces are hot and not particularly atmospheric in the daytime, and the view comes into its own at dusk.

Mezzaluna: two MICHELIN stars on the 65th floor

Mezzaluna, meaning half moon, occupies a crescent-shaped dining room on the 65th floor, with double-height windows over the city. Executive Chef Ryuki Kawasaki cooks French cuisine through Japanese ingredients and precision, served as a seven-course tasting menu, with a seven-course vegetarian version. The MICHELIN Guide lists Mezzaluna with two stars, and lebua says it has held two stars in every edition of the Thailand guide since the first.

It is small, with 44 seats, closed on Sundays, and asks for smart elegant dress, a step up from the smart casual expected elsewhere in the tower. Children aged 7 and over are welcome with an adult.

Chef's Table: French tasting menus on the 61st floor

Chef's Table, on the 61st floor, is lebua's contemporary French restaurant, led by Executive Chef Vincent Thierry. The format is built around watching each course being prepared, plated and presented, with tasting menus that range from a seven-course menu to a Signature Menu of French classics. The MICHELIN Guide also lists Chef's Table with two stars.

The house rules match Mezzaluna's: smart elegant dress, children from 7 with an adult, and a tasting-menu evening of several hours. The difference for planning is the day off: Chef's Table closes on Mondays, Mezzaluna on Sundays, so on either night one of them is open.

Breeze: Chinese cooking in the open air

Breeze is reached across an LED-lit skywalk on the 52nd floor, lower than the others but still open to the sky. Chef Sam Pang cooks Cantonese-led Chinese food, with dim sum to start and a tasting menu that draws on Hokkaido produce and his own Malaysian-Cantonese background; there is also an à la carte menu. lebua's guide describes Breeze as a quieter, more intimate alternative to Sirocco. Like Sirocco, it welcomes all ages and needs a reservation.

Booking, dress and the bars

Reserve all four restaurants by phone or WhatsApp through lebua, or through its website. Each booking needs a deposit, which comes off the final bill; changes and cancellations are free up to 72 hours ahead, and later changes or no-shows lose the deposit. Special dates such as New Year's Eve and Valentine's Day need full prepayment.

Dress is smart casual for Sirocco and Breeze and smart elegant for Mezzaluna and Chef's Table. Sleeveless shirts for men, sportswear, flip-flops and swimwear are not allowed anywhere in The Dome. Large bags and luggage cannot be taken up, and there is no storage.

The bars in the tower, including Sky Bar, the circular open-air bar that appeared in The Hangover Part II, take no reservations at all, so a common plan is dinner at one of the restaurants and a walk-in drink afterward. See our Bangkok nightlife page for other rooftop bars.

Getting to State Tower

State Tower stands at the river end of Silom Road in Bang Rak. lebua says Saphan Taksin BTS station is roughly a five-minute walk from the entrance. Diners who are not hotel guests go in through the main State Tower lobby and take the dedicated elevators to The Dome.

If you want to stay in the building, our lebua at State Tower review covers the all-suite hotel below the restaurants. For other fine dining across the city, see our Bangkok restaurants guide.
