How Far Is Cambodia From Bangkok? Distances and Border Crossings

How far Cambodia is from Bangkok depends on where in Cambodia you mean. The nearest main border crossing, at Aranyaprathet in Sa Kaeo province, is about 222 kilometers (138 miles) east of central Bangkok in a straight line. Angkor Wat, near Siem Reap, is about 367 kilometers (228 miles) away, and Phnom Penh, the capital, about 539 kilometers (335 miles). Road distances are longer than these straight-line figures.

Before planning an overland trip, note that the land border is currently closed. Foreign government travel advice, updated in September 2026, says the land crossings between Thailand and Cambodia remain suspended after armed clashes along the border in 2025, so for now the practical way to travel between the two countries is by air.

Distances from Bangkok to Cambodia

We measured every distance below from the Grand Palace in Bangkok's old city, using the Google Places coordinates for each point and the great-circle (as the crow flies) formula. They are useful for comparing destinations, but they are not driving distances.

Two more figures help with planning. From Suvarnabhumi Airport, which lies east of the city in Samut Prakan, Angkor Wat is about 339 kilometers and Phnom Penh's Royal Palace about 511 kilometers in a straight line. Inside Cambodia, Angkor Wat and Phnom Penh are about 236 kilometers apart.

The border crossings, and why they are closed

Thailand and Cambodia share a long land border, and before 2025 several crossings were used by travelers:

• Aranyaprathet to Poipet (Sa Kaeo province), the closest crossing to Bangkok and the usual overland route toward Siem Reap. The Ban Khlong Luek border market sits beside it.
• Hat Lek to Cham Yeam (Trat province), on the coast, the route toward Koh Kong and southern Cambodia.
• Chong Chom to O'Smach (Surin province), in the northeast.

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office says fighting occurred along parts of the border in July 2025, with further clashes in early December involving rocket and artillery fire, and that land borders and crossings between Thailand and Cambodia remain suspended. It advises against all but essential travel within 20 kilometers of the border and notes unexploded landmines in the area. Canada's travel advice, updated September 24, 2026, says a ceasefire agreed on December 27, 2025 is in effect but the border area remains unpredictable, land crossings are closed, and it advises against all travel within 50 kilometers of the border. Several temples close to the border, including Khao Phra Wihan (Preah Vihear), are closed.

Check the latest official advice before any trip toward the border. Crossings can reopen, or close again, without much notice.

Getting from Bangkok to Cambodia now

With the land crossings suspended, travelers fly. Bangkok has two airports, Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, and Cambodia's main international gateways are Techo International Airport, serving Phnom Penh, and Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, serving Angkor. Check airlines directly for current routes and schedules, which change often.

Both countries use the same time zone, UTC+7, so there is no clock change. Arrange your Cambodian visa in advance through the Cambodian government's official e-visa service or embassy, and use only official channels.
