Halloween in Bangkok 2026: Events, Ghost Stories and Spooky Things to Do

Halloween in Bangkok 2026: Events, Ghost Stories and Spooky Things to Do

Halloween in Bangkok falls on a Saturday in 2026, October 31, and the city marks it the way many international capitals do: costume parties at hotels and bars, themed decorations in the malls and family events run by schools and venues. It is not a Thai holiday, so there is no single official celebration. As of September 26, 2026, none of the major Bangkok malls, attractions or the Tourism Authority of Thailand had published a Halloween program for this year, so check venue pages in October.

What Bangkok does offer year-round is its own ghost lore, a medical museum with a macabre reputation and a riverside haunted-house ride. And three days before Halloween, the Bangkok Art Biennale opens with a theme about angels and demons. Here is what you can plan now.

What usually happens around Halloween in Bangkok

Treat this as a guide to the kinds of events to look for rather than a confirmed list, and verify each one on the venue's own website or social pages before you go:

  • Hotel parties and themed brunches. International hotels often run costume nights, themed dinners or children's activities on the weekend nearest October 31. With Halloween on a Saturday this year, expect most events to cluster on that weekend.
  • Mall decorations and kids' activities. Big malls typically decorate and stage family activities in late October. Check the events pages of Siam Paragon, ICONSIAM and CentralWorld from early October.
  • Themed events by the tourism authority. In 2024 the Tourism Authority of Thailand ran the Thailand Goosebumps Festival, a ghost-themed market and festival at the State Railway of Thailand's Makkasan factory from October 26 to 31. No 2026 edition had been announced when we checked, but it shows the kind of event that can appear at short notice.

For bars and venues with late opening, our Bangkok nightlife guide lists places to start.

Bangkok Art Biennale 2026: Angels and Mara

The fifth Bangkok Art Biennale runs from October 29, 2026 to February 28, 2027 under the theme Angels & Mara. The Tourism Authority of Thailand describes it as an exploration of the tension between guardians of light and forces of temptation, a theme that plays on Bangkok's Thai name, Krung Thep, the City of Angels. Works will be shown across the city, including at Wat Arun, Wat Pho, Wat Prayoon, Museum Siam, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, One Bangkok, centralwOrld, Siam Paragon, the National Museum Bangkok and the Art Centre at Silpakorn University. It is the most substantial thing opening in Bangkok on Halloween weekend, and a thoughtful alternative to a costume party.

Siriraj Medical Museum

For something genuinely unsettling, the Siriraj Medical Museum at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok Noi, on the Thonburi side of the river, groups several collections, including the Songkran Niyomsane Forensic Medicine Museum, the Ellis Pathology Museum, a parasitology museum and the Congdon Anatomical Museum. The exhibits include real human specimens, so it is not for everyone, and it may not suit young children.

The museum opens Wednesday to Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closes on Tuesdays and public holidays. Photography is not allowed inside the Medical Museum. A combined ticket for two museums costs 300 baht for foreign visitors; the full details are in the FAQ below.

Mae Nak Phra Khanong: Bangkok's most famous ghost

Thailand's best-known ghost story belongs to Bangkok. According to folklore set in the reign of King Rama IV, Mae Nak, a young woman living on the Phra Khanong canal, died in childbirth while her husband was away at war, and her spirit waited for him to come home. The story has been retold in many Thai films.

A shrine to Mae Nak stands at Wat Mahabut, in the Suan Luang district off On Nut Road. It is a place of worship, not an attraction: visitors come to leave offerings and make wishes. If you go, dress as you would for any temple, behave quietly and do not treat it as a haunted-house stop.

A haunted-house ride at Asiatique

Asiatique The Riverfront, at 2194 Charoen Krung Road, runs the Mystery House, a haunted-house ride in which two-person gondolas are released one at a time through a course of lights and sounds. The riverfront is open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight, and the ride sits alongside Asiatique Sky, a 60-meter Ferris wheel, and a food area in its warehouses, so it makes an easy family evening at any time of year.

Tips for Halloween in Bangkok

  • Book hotel events early. With Halloween on a Saturday, popular parties and brunches can fill up.
  • Keep costumes respectful. Avoid anything that mocks monks, the monarchy or religious images; these are taken seriously in Thailand.
  • Plan for rain. Late October can still bring heavy showers. Use the BTS and MRT rather than taxis if roads are flooded.
