Things to Do in Bangkok at Night: Markets, River Cruises, Rooftops and Muay Thai

Things to Do in Bangkok at Night: Markets, River Cruises, Rooftops and Muay Thai

The best things to do in Bangkok at night are mostly outdoors and mostly family-friendly: eat along Yaowarat Road in Chinatown, browse a night market, take a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya past a floodlit Wat Arun, look over the city from a rooftop or observation deck, and watch Muay Thai at Rajadamnern Stadium. Many of these run until 10 p.m. or midnight, so one evening can easily hold two of them.

This guide sticks to evenings that suit couples, friends and families alike. For cocktail bars and later nights, see our Bangkok nightlife guide.

Night markets and street food

Yaowarat Road, Chinatown

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) names Yaowarat among the Bangkok food streets that stay busy well into the night, and it is the easiest night market to reach: MRT Wat Mangkon, exit 1, comes out a short walk from Yaowarat Road. Grills and stalls line the main road after dark, so the simplest plan is to graze and share. For a sit-down Thai-Chinese tasting menu in the same neighborhood, Restaurant Potong is on Vanich 1 Road, a few minutes from the same station exit.

Jodd Fairs and the Train Night Market

TAT also lists Jodd Fairs and the Train Night Market Srinakarin (Talad Rot Fai) among the city's evening food markets, and describes the Srinakarin market as a place for vintage fashion, antiques and collectibles as well as food. Neither is close to the river hotels, and their trading nights change, so check each market's official page before crossing town.

Chatuchak and Asiatique

Chatuchak Weekend Market is a daytime market first, but TAT notes that it carries on into the evening on Saturdays and Sundays, and in 2026 the tourism authority highlighted a study that ranked it the world's leading night-market destination. Carry cash in baht and bargain politely.

Asiatique The Riverfront, on Charoen Krung Road beside the Chao Phraya, fills the former port warehouses of the East Asiatic Company and is open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight. It mixes shops and restaurants with a riverside walkway and Asiatique Sky, a 60-meter Ferris wheel that looks up and down the river after dark, which makes it one of the easier evenings out with children.

On the river after dark

Meridian Cruise sails from ICONSIAM twice each evening. The Sunset Cruise leaves at 5 p.m. for the golden-hour light; the Dinner Cruise leaves at 8 p.m. and loops past Wat Arun, the Grand Palace and the Rama VIII Bridge, with an international buffet, a resident band and a traditional Thai dance performance. Children are welcome at discounted rates and the boat is wheelchair accessible, which makes it a gentle first night in the city. TAT notes that ICONSIAM stages fountain shows each night, so arriving early for boarding gives you something to watch.

The same river view works from dry land. Supanniga Eating Room Tha Tien sits on the Chao Phraya directly across the water from Wat Arun and serves until 10 p.m., so an early dinner there lines up with the temple lights coming on.

Temples and landmarks lit up at night

The 66.8-meter central prang of Wat Arun is lit every night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and in 2024 Japan's YAKEI Convention and Visitors Bureau certified the temple as a World Night View Heritage site for that view over the river. TAT also points out that the Grand Palace glows on the riverbank after dark. The palace grounds close in the afternoon, so this is a view from a boat or the opposite bank rather than a night visit.

Some sacred sites stay open into the evening. The Erawan Shrine at the Ratchaprasong intersection is open for worship until 10 p.m., and visitors are asked to dress modestly and speak softly. At Loy Krathong each November, Wat Saket and the Golden Mount holds a seven-day, seven-night festival, and TAT lists the Vijit Chao Phraya light festival, which has lit up the riverfront from mid-November to mid-December.

Rooftops and skyline views

The Mahanakhon SkyWalk is the easiest high view for a mixed group. It is open daily until midnight, with last entry at 11 p.m., sells child and senior tickets, and has an open-air rooftop with a glass floor 310 meters above Silom. BTS Chong Nonsi, exit 3, is beside the tower.

For dinner with a view, Sirocco serves Mediterranean food in the open air on the 64th floor of State Tower, under the gold dome of lebua at State Tower. It welcomes children of all ages, needs a reservation secured by a deposit, and keeps a smart-casual dress code. Sky Bar on the same floor is walk-in only and admits children aged 7 and over with an adult.

One change to know about: Banyan Tree Bangkok has temporarily closed its rooftop Vertigo and Moon Bar for a redesign, so check the hotel's dining page before planning an evening around it. For grown-ups who want a serious cocktail instead of a view, BKK Social Club at Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok opens daily from 5 p.m. to midnight and was named No. 20 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026.

Muay Thai at Rajadamnern Stadium

Rajadamnern Stadium, opened in 1945 on Ratchadamnoen Nok Road, stages fights every night of the week, with a live Muay Thai orchestra and the pre-fight wai khru ritual. Saturday's Rajadamnern World Series shows open scoring after every round, which helps newcomers follow the bouts, and the stadium recommends its Club Class seats for families and first-timers. An immersive show is projected onto the dome during the evening. There is no rail station at the door, so plan on a taxi from BTS Ratchathewi or MRT Sam Yot.

Planning an evening

  • Pair places that sit close together: the SkyWalk at BTS Chong Nonsi and dinner at State Tower near BTS Saphan Taksin are both on the BTS Silom line, and a river cruise goes naturally with the Wat Arun view.
  • Reserve cruises and rooftop dinners ahead; Sky Bar and many markets are walk-in, and Muay Thai tickets can be bought online or at the stadium.
  • Carry cash for markets and street food, as the tourism authority advises.
  • Dress for the most formal stop of the night. Rooftop restaurants and shrines have dress expectations; markets do not.
