Nusara
About
Nusara is chef Thitid 'Ton' Tassanakajohn's tribute to the grandmother who raised him, and it carries her name. Dinner is a single tasting menu that opens with a run of small, playful bites and then moves to mains served family-style, the way she cooked for him and his brother. It holds one MICHELIN star in the 2026 Thailand guide, and the restaurant says it debuted at No. 3 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants in 2023.
It suits a special-occasion dinner in the Old City, particularly after a day of temples and palaces. The restaurant is on Maha Rat Road at the edge of Tha Tien, the old neighborhood beside the royal palace, and its balcony looks across to Wat Pho, lit up after dark. Allow about two and a half hours at the table.
Recipes from home
Chef Ton calls the food Colorful Thai Cuisine and says it is neither traditional nor modern. Many of the dishes trace back to the Rattanakosin era and a few to the royal kitchens of Ayutthaya, among them tom kha, green curry and the nam phrik relishes, and every one is a dish his grandmother liked to cook for her grandsons. The 2026 menu runs from blue swimming crab curry with crisp garuda leaves and a tom kha with gourami fish to a course of four regional relishes and Thai wagyu stir-fried with holy basil. Desserts include a Thai tea ice cream sandwich and dark chocolate with fish sauce caramel.
The team
Chef Ton trained at the Culinary Institute of America and cooked in New York kitchens including Eleven Madison Park and Jean Georges before returning to Bangkok, where he also runs Le Du in Silom. His brother Chaisiri 'Tam' Tassanakajohn is the sommelier and managing director, and Somchat 'Tui' Boonsri is chef de cuisine.
Before you book
Everyone at the table, children included, takes the set menu, and the full amount is paid as a deposit when you reserve. The kitchen cannot leave out the fish and oyster sauce, shrimp paste, dried shrimp or coconut milk at the heart of its cooking, though a vegetarian menu can be arranged in advance. A private dining room takes up to six guests.
Getting there
The restaurant has no parking or valet service, so a taxi, or a walk from the temple district, is the easier way in. For drivers, the restaurant points to the public car parks at Wat Pho and the Royal Thai Navy Club.
Nuss Bar
Nuss Bar is inside Nusara and also takes the grandmother's name. Its co-founder Ronnaporn, of Mahaniyom Cocktail Bar, built it around Thai Sensations: four seasonal signature cocktails, changed every three months, made with local ingredients and Thai craft spirits, alongside the classics.
