Which Bangkok airport to fly from

Bangkok has two airports with flights to Phuket, and the one you use depends on the airline.

• Suvarnabhumi (BKK), east of the city in Samut Prakan province, is the main international airport. Thai Airways flies to Phuket from here, and so do Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia and Thai VietJet Air.
• Don Mueang (DMK), in the north of Bangkok, is the base for most low-cost domestic flights, including Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air and Nok Air.

How long the whole trip takes

Door to door, a Bangkok to Phuket trip by plane takes most of a morning or an afternoon rather than 85 minutes. AirAsia advises arriving at the airport two to three hours before departure. Add the ride to the airport in Bangkok, where traffic can be heavy, and the transfer on arrival.
