Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok is the relaxed, design-led choice in Bangkok's Langsuan embassy quarter: a hotel with a MICHELIN Key, a starred restaurant and a rooftop bar that still hosts a free evening drinks hour and welcomes pets of any size at no charge. Its 360 rooms include 97 serviced residences with kitchens, which makes it one of the stronger picks for longer stays. It suits travelers who prefer a social atmosphere to formal service, families who want a kitchen and a washer, and dog owners. It is not on the Skytrain's doorstep, though, so expect a walk or the hotel van to reach the BTS.

Location and getting around
The hotel is at 78 Soi Ton Son, a leafy lane in Lumphini, Pathum Wan, between the Chit Lom shopping district and Lumphini Park. Its own directions page puts BTS Chit Lom 800 meters away on foot from Exit 4. The simpler option is the free seven-seat hotel van, which runs hourly through the day to Chit Lom station and the Mercury Ville mall, though you must book it with the concierge at least an hour ahead.
From Suvarnabhumi the drive takes 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. Travelers who prefer rail can take the Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai, change to the BTS and ride to Chit Lom. The next building along the lane is Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok, and Park Hyatt Bangkok sits above Central Embassy nearby.
Rooms and residences
Every room has floor-to-ceiling windows facing the skyline or the garden below, with interiors that mix Thai craft and natural materials. Connecting rooms, accessible rooms and pet-free rooms for guests with allergies are all available, which is a thoughtful detail in a hotel that invites so many dogs.
The residences are the reason to choose Kimpton for a longer trip. They range from a 65-square-meter one-bedroom with a balcony to a 175-square-meter three-bedroom, each with a kitchen, a washer and dryer and a separate living area. For a family or a work trip of a week or more, that removes the two biggest costs of hotel living: eating out for every meal and sending out the laundry.
Dining and bars
The MICHELIN Guide gives the hotel One MICHELIN Key, and AVANT on the 30th floor holds one MICHELIN star. Six restaurants and bars share the building.
- AVANT is chef Haikal Johari's contemporary French restaurant with Asian influences, serving a seafood-forward tasting menu built largely on Japanese produce. It runs independently of the hotel, takes advance reservations only and is closed on Sundays, so book before you travel.
- Bar.Yard is the 40th-floor rooftop bar, with an air-conditioned interior, Pan-Latin and Thai dishes from Peruvian chef Julio César Concha Muñoz and DJs later in the evening. Under-20s may stay until 9 p.m. with an adult.
- Ms.Jigger is the Italian restaurant of Piedmont-born chef Danilo Aiassa, with an Italian-style afternoon tea; dogs are welcome on its terrace during the day.
- Ruby's is a 16-seat cocktail bar with a menu themed on precious stones, alcohol-free drinks included; reserve ahead.
- Stock.Room serves breakfast and all-day dining over the garden, with a nightly seafood and grill buffet, and CRAFT is the walk-in lobby café and bar, pouring coffee from Nan province and welcoming pets inside.

Pool, spa and fitness
The infinity pool sits in a planted garden on the 3rd floor, and amaranth spa on the 4th offers massages, facials and OPI nail care built on Thai techniques. The gym never closes for hotel guests, every room has a yoga mat, and free daily classes include yoga, HIIT, street dance and Thai boxing. The hotel is also Thailand's first official HYROX training club, a draw for fitness-focused travelers. Non-guests can buy a weekday pool pass, so the pool can be busier than the room count suggests.
Families and pets
Children up to 12 stay free, cribs cost nothing and connecting rooms are available, while the two- and three-bedroom residences suit larger families. The pet policy is the most generous we have found among Bangkok's luxury hotels: pets of every size and breed, no extra charge, beds and bowls on request, and pet-sitting for a fee. Borrowable bikes and the brand's Forgot It? We've Got It! program, which lends out anything from chargers to hair straighteners, round out a guest-friendly approach. Who it suits, and the alternatives
Kimpton Maa-Lai suits social travelers, long-stay guests who want a kitchen, food travelers booking AVANT, and anyone bringing a dog. It suits less well travelers who want a station at the door, a quiet adults-only feel on a busy evening, or the formal service of a classic grand hotel.
