The top things to do in Pratunam, Bangkok, come down to three: shop the wholesale clothing market and malls, ride up Baiyoke Tower II for the view, and eat your way around the food floors and street stalls in between. Pratunam is the garment district of central Bangkok, in Ratchathewi, just north of the Ratchaprasong mall district across Khlong Saen Saep. It suits bargain shoppers, anyone buying clothing in quantity, and travelers who want a central, rail-linked base with plenty of mid-range hotels.
Where Pratunam is, and why it matters
The district grows out of the Pratunam intersection, where Phetchaburi Road meets Ratchaprarop and Ratchadamri roads. Its geography is its advantage: the Airport Rail Link stops at Ratchaprarop station, so you can ride in from Suvarnabhumi without a taxi, and the malls of Ratchaprasong and the Erawan Shrine are across the canal to the south. Traffic around the intersection is heavy for much of the day, so rail, the canal boat and walking usually beat a car for short trips.
Pratunam Market and the garment trade
Pratunam Market is less a single building than a dense grid of stalls, arcades and small shops around the lanes off Phetchaburi and Ratchaprarop roads, and much of what it sells is clothing, bags and accessories by the piece or by the bundle. Many sellers work wholesale first, so it is worth asking whether a price is for one piece or for a set quantity. Bring cash, check sizes before you pay, and expect to carry your own bags.
If you are shopping for gifts rather than stock, it helps to decide what you want before you go: the sheer quantity of near-identical stalls makes it easy to spend an afternoon comparing the same shirt at different counters.
Platinum Fashion Mall
The air-conditioned alternative is Platinum Fashion Mall on Phetchaburi Road, which describes itself as a wholesale and retail fashion mall with more than 2,500 shops selling men's and women's wear, bags, leather goods, shoes and accessories. It is organized into zones and floors, which makes it easier to cover than the open market, and the mall runs a tourist privilege program with discounts at participating stores for international visitors who register.
Platinum is also a practical place to eat. The mall lists a food floor on the sixth floor of Zone 1 and a Thai food zone on the fifth floor of Zone 3, alongside cafes and snack counters on the lower floors. For getting there, the mall points visitors to BTS Chit Lom (exit 6, then the R-Walk elevated walkway), the Pratunam pier on the Saen Saep canal boat, and the Airport Rail Link at Ratchaprarop.

Pratunam's landmark is Baiyoke Tower II, home to the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, which the hotel says rises 88 stories above the district. It was long Thailand's tallest building. The observatory is on the 77th floor, with a revolving viewpoint on the 84th, and the hotel says that on a clear day you can see as far as the Gulf of Thailand. Coin-operated telescopes and maps help you pick out landmarks.

Food in Pratunam
Pratunam's food is mostly everyday Bangkok eating rather than destination dining: noodle and rice shops, street stalls selling grilled skewers and fruit, and mall food floors built for shoppers who want a quick lunch. The simplest plan is to eat where you shop, at the Platinum food floors or the stalls around the market lanes, and save a sit-down dinner for elsewhere. Look for busy stalls with a quick turnover and prices posted.
The district also hosts food events. In October 2025 the Tourism Authority of Thailand and partners staged a Thai curry-rice championship at Phenix Pratunam, a newer mall in the area, so check local listings if you are in town for a festival. Nearby: temples, museums and malls

Staying in Pratunam
Pratunam has plenty of mid-range and budget hotels, including the Baiyoke Sky Hotel itself, whose own page notes it is next to the Airport Rail Link station and runs a free shuttle to nearby BTS stations.
