Thonglor is Soi Sukhumvit 55, a long side street that runs north from Sukhumvit Road at BTS Thong Lo station, lined with cafes, restaurants and community malls. The things to do in Thonglor are mostly about eating, drinking coffee and browsing its community malls, so it suits food-focused travelers and anyone staying along the eastern Sukhumvit corridor.

Where Thonglor is and how to get there
Thonglor sits in Watthana district, between the Phrom Phong and Ekkamai neighborhoods. The BTS Sukhumvit Line stops at Thong Lo station, at the southern end of the soi, and restaurants give their addresses by the numbered side lanes that branch off it, such as Thong Lo 17. Many of the places below are well up the soi, so plan on a taxi, ride-hailing car or bus for the longer stretches rather than assuming a quick walk from the station.
Ekkamai, the next BTS station east, serves Soi Sukhumvit 63, which runs parallel to Thonglor. Some Thonglor addresses, including Donki Mall, are easier to reach from that side.
Community malls
theCOMMONS Thonglor
Opened in 2015 on Thong Lo 17, theCOMMONS Thonglor describes itself as a backyard for the neighborhood. It is spread over four levels, called the Market, the Village, the Play Yard and the Top Yard, with independent food and drink vendors rather than chain stores. On the Market floor you will find Roots, a coffee roaster that works with farmers in Northern Thailand, alongside vendors serving tacos, all-day dining, wine and sake. The building opens from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m., though each vendor keeps its own hours, and a monthly calendar lists live music, screenings and family events.
theCOMMONS is a good first stop if you have a couple of hours: breakfast or coffee, then a look at what is on.
Donki Mall Thonglor
Donki Mall Thonglor, on Soi Sukhumvit 63, is built around Don Don Donki, the Japanese discount store, which fills the first two floors with groceries, ready meals, snacks and household goods. It is a practical stop for travelers staying nearby who want Japanese snacks or supplies, and the mall's own directions point to either Thong Lo or Ekkamai BTS stations.
Where to eat in Thonglor
Thonglor's restaurant scene ranges from casual cafes to destination dining rooms. One well-documented example on the main soi:
- Supanniga Eating Room, Thonglor: the restaurant group's Thonglor branch, at 160/11 Soi Sukhumvit 55, cooks family recipes from Khun Yai Somsri, the owner's grandmother, with a focus on the food of Trat and Isan. Dishes it names as signatures include moo cha muang, pork braised with cha muang leaves, and a green curry with Isan wagyu and roti. It is near BTS Thong Lo exit 3. The group's riverside branch, Supanniga Eating Room Tha Tien, is on the river at Tha Tien, near Wat Pho.
Three restaurants with BangkokVacay listings are a short BTS ride west, elsewhere along Sukhumvit:
- Gaggan, the progressive Indian tasting-menu restaurant, on Sukhumvit Soi 31.
- Sorn, known for Southern Thai cooking, on Sukhumvit Soi 26. Reservations open on a fixed monthly schedule, so plan well ahead.
- Err, a Thai drinking-food restaurant from the team behind Bo.lan, on Sukhumvit Soi 32.

Cafes and coffee
For coffee, Roots at theCOMMONS, open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., is an easy place to start, with coffee from Northern Thai beans and a bakery counter. Many independent cafes along the soi change often, so check a cafe's own page for current hours before making a special trip.
Evenings and bars

Nearby: green space and sights
Thonglor has little green space of its own. The nearest large park is Benjakitti Park, a restored wetland forest park with an elevated skywalk, reached from BTS Asok or MRT Sukhumvit. From Thong Lo station, the BTS also runs west to Siam for the city's big malls and to connections for the Old City sights.
Tips for visiting Thonglor
- Use the BTS to arrive, then ride up the soi. Thonglor is long, and many addresses are well away from the station.
- Book popular restaurants. Restaurants such as Supanniga take reservations online; do it for dinner on weekends.
- Check vendor hours. In community malls, each cafe or bar sets its own opening times.
- Pair it with Ekkamai or Phrom Phong. Both neighboring stations add more restaurants and malls within a single BTS stop.

A mall on Soi Sukhumvit 63 anchored by Don Don Donki, the Japanese discount store, on its first and second floors. The mall lists Thong Lo and Ekkamai BTS stations, and buses 23 and 72, as ways to get there.
It suits travelers who want restaurants and cafes close by and are happy to use the BTS to reach the Old City. It is quieter on sightseeing than Siam or the riverside, so first-time visitors focused on temples may prefer to stay closer to the river or the Old City.
Thonglor itself has little green space. Benjakitti Park, a large wetland forest park with an elevated skywalk, is reached from BTS Asok or MRT Sukhumvit, a few stops west.
