Above Eleven Bangkok
About
Above Eleven is a Peruvian-Japanese rooftop restaurant and bar on the 33rd floor of Fraser Suites Sukhumvit, opened in 2012 as the first venue from the Bangkok group Soho Hospitality. The kitchen cooks Nikkei food, the cuisine of Japanese Peru, so the menu runs from cebiche and tiradito to sushi rolls finished with Peruvian sauces, and the bar is built around pisco.
It works best for a sunset drink that turns into dinner, a group night out, or anyone curious about Nikkei cooking. The building stands on Sukhumvit Soi 11, about 500 meters from BTS Nana by the Fraser Suites' own figure, so the train is the easy way in and out on a busy evening.
The terrace
The group says the design was inspired by New York's Central Park, and the rooftop is planted like an urban garden, with steel tree canopies over the lounge seating and dining tables set along the edge for skyline views. Evenings start with the sunset and move into a later, louder crowd once the DJs arrive.
What to eat
Cebiche is the place to start: sea bass and shrimp in the house leche de tigre, or a tasting of three styles. Tiraditos, the Peruvian answer to sashimi, sit beside sashimi platters and sushi rolls, including one wrapped in Angus beef with lomo saltado sauce, and there are vegetarian dishes such as a king oyster mushroom cebiche. It is a full dinner menu rather than bar snacks, and dishes are built for sharing across a table.
What to drink
Pisco is the house spirit. The Pisco Sour comes classic or in fruit versions such as passion fruit, watermelon and mint, or mango and chili, and the bar will infuse the pisco with orange and cinnamon or aji amarillo on request. Margaritas, mezcal and agave drinks, tiki cocktails and the usual classics fill out the list.
Music and salsa
DJs play every night, and live musicians, with saxophone and violin on rotation, perform in the early evening from Thursday to Sunday. Wednesday is salsa night, when guests can learn and dance on the roof.
Before you go
The door enforces a dress code that rules out beachwear-style footwear and large bags, and it applies to children too, so dress for dinner rather than the pool.
Also at Fraser Suites Sukhumvit
Charcoal Tandoor Grill & Mixology, another Soho Hospitality venue in the building, cooks tandoori dishes in traditional clay ovens and pairs them with cocktails designed around the grill.
