Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok earns its place on a shortlist with space. All 396 rooms and suites on this Chao Phraya site start at 60 square meters, each with a private balcony and a small cooking station, which is more than the entry rooms at Park Hyatt Bangkok (48 square meters) or Siam Kempinski (37). It suits families, groups and longer stays that want river views. The trade-offs are distance and a thinner list of extras: the hotel sits well down Charoen Krung Road at Soi 70, relies on its shuttle boat to reach the BTS, and has no MICHELIN recognition or confirmed spa.

Location and getting around
The address is 28 Charoen Krung Soi 70 in Bang Kho Laem, on the east bank of the river, south of the cluster of hotels around Saphan Taksin. By road that can mean long taxi rides into the center at busy times. The hotel's answer is a complimentary shuttle boat for guests, which runs on a timetable from the hotel's private pier to Sathorn Pier, beside BTS Saphan Taksin, in about 15 minutes, and makes four trips a day to ICONSIAM. The boat may be suspended in heavy rain, so check the timetable before planning around it.
From Sathorn Pier, the Chao Phraya Express Boat heads north toward the sights. The hotel's own suggestions are Ratchawong Pier for Chinatown, Memorial Bridge Pier for the flower market and Tha Chang Pier for the Grand Palace, with Tha Tien and a short cross-river ferry for Wat Arun. In Chinatown, Restaurant POTONG, which holds one MICHELIN star, is worth booking ahead. ICONSIAM, on the shuttle route, is also where the Meridian Cruise sunset and dinner cruises depart.

Rooms and suites
Grand Deluxe Rooms of 60 square meters face either the city or the river, and One Bedroom Suites of 70 square meters add a separate living room. Two Bedroom Suites of 120 square meters, Premier Suites of 125 and 250 square meters and a 465-square-meter Presidential Suite cover larger families and groups. Every room has a balcony and a cooking station, which makes a week-long stay with children or a group of friends far easier than in a standard hotel room. If the river is the point, book a River View category; the rest look over the city.
A limited number of connecting rooms can be pre-booked, and a Club Lounge is available for a surcharge. The hotel tower shares its riverside site with Chatrium Residence Riverside Bangkok, the group's serviced apartments, which suit even longer stays.
Dining and bars
All five restaurants and bars are open to visitors as well as guests, and the hotel recommends reservations at busy times, especially evenings at Cloud 36. River Barge is the riverside restaurant, serving Thai, Chinese and international dishes on the bank from breakfast to dinner, with themed seafood buffets on weekend evenings. Silver Waves by Boon serves modern Cantonese food and dim sum on the 36th floor, overseen by chef Ho Chee Boon, with views over the river and skyline.
Cloud 36 is the rooftop bar, with 360-degree views of the Chao Phraya and cocktails built on Asian herbs and spices. The Lobby Lounge looks onto the garden and serves cakes, pastries and afternoon tea, and Flow, the pool bar, brings drinks and meals to the loungers. None of these appears in the MICHELIN Guide's Bangkok selection, so treat the in-house dining as convenient rather than a reason to book.
Pools and fitness
The 35-meter infinity pool on the sixth floor looks over the city and the river, and it comes with two children's pools, a jacuzzi and an outdoor playground beside it. The fitness center is open around the clock, with separate saunas for men and women. The hotel's current factsheet and facilities pages list no spa, although one older page mentions one, so if treatments matter, confirm with the hotel before booking.
Families
This is where the hotel is strongest. The room sizes, balconies and cooking stations cover the everyday logistics of traveling with children, the pool deck has two children's pools and a playground, and babysitting can be booked by the hour. Extra beds include breakfast. The connecting rooms are Grand Deluxe City View twins paired with kings, and there are only a few, so request them when you book rather than on arrival. Who it suits, and the alternatives
Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok suits families, groups of friends, longer stays and travelers who value room size and a river balcony over a central address. It suits less well travelers who want to step out of the lobby into the city, a spa hotel, or a destination restaurant in the building.
